Crop Insurance

As the upcoming growing season approaches, many producers are reassessing risk management strategies.

Farming is full of variables posing risks to crop production, including weather, pests and disease. The Crop Insurance program is designed to support producers when yield losses occur due to insurable causes, such as drought, excess rain or frost.

Coverage is based on your individual yield history. The program uses features like yield cushioning to help maintain meaningful protection, even after consecutive poor production years. Other features, like the Unseeded Acreage and Establishment Benefit, help ensure you are covered when you are unable to seed acres or crops fail to establish, helping to address production risk.

Crop insurance is designed to help producers recover the bushels they would typically expect to grow, based on their production history. Crop Insurance allows producers to plan, invest and grow with greater certainty. The program helps producers remain secure in the face of adversity.

Every operation is different. Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation (SCIC) encourages producers to explore the options available and choose coverage to fit their needs. Whether you are reviewing your current coverage or considering insurance for the first time, contact your local SCIC office. |The deadline to apply, reinstate, cancel or make changes to your crop insurance contract is March 31, 2026.
