The term nomophobia is a psychological condition when people have a fear of being without a mobile phone or not having access to the internet. While it may not seem like a serious concern, nomophobia causes very real mental stress, most often to children, teens and young adults between the ages of 12 and 23. Nomophobia usually first occurs during early teenage years and is reported more frequently among young women. Left unchecked, nomophobia can lead to insomnia, low self-esteem, high rates of anxiety and lowered academic performance.
