Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) provides a range of programs and services to Saskatchewan people in need of affordable housing options.

1. Renters

SHC’s programs for renters help Saskatchewan residents in need better afford their housing costs.

  • The Saskatchewan Housing Benefit is a monthly benefit that helps Saskatchewan renters with their rent and utility costs.

  • The Social Housing Program provides safe and affordable housing to families and seniors with low incomes, and to people with disabilities.

  • The Seniors Housing Program provides rental housing to individuals and couples 55 and older who need affordable housing, live in small communities, and live independently with or without supports from family, the community or government agencies.

  • The Affordable Housing Program offers rental housing to individuals and families in select rural and northern Saskatchewan communities.

  • The Life Lease Program offers seniors with moderate incomes the opportunity to live in an affordable apartment-style home, in exchange for a deposit and a monthly occupancy fee. This program is available in select Saskatchewan communities.

SHC offers programs for homeowners with low incomes to help with emergency repairs and adaptations to make a home more accessible for a person with a housing-related disability.

  • The Emergency Home Repair Program offers financial assistance to help homeowners with low incomes complete emergency repairs to make their homes safe.

  • The Adaptations for Independence Program offers financial assistance to help homeowners or rental property owners with low incomes make their homes more accessible for a person with a housing related disability.

3. Housing Developers

SHC offers capital funding programs to help housing organizations develop affordable rental housing units, repair or renew existing affordable housing units, and build new or repair existing emergency shelters and second-stage housing.

  • The Rental Development Program provides one-time capital funding to help housing organizations develop affordable rental housing units for households with low incomes.

  • The Saskatchewan Co-Investment Program provides 10-year forgivable loans to support the construction of new affordable rental housing and the repair or renewal of existing affordable housing in Saskatchewan.

  • The Shelter Enhancement Program provides financial assistance to organizations to help them build or repair emergency shelters and second-stage housing for victims of family violence.
