Agriview Summer 2025

Welcome to the July edition of Agriview+

Minister's Message

Minister Daryl Harrison
Minister Daryl Harrison
As we move into summer, I’d like to take this opportunity to highlight a few items of particular interest for our producers—some of which you can read more about in this issue of Agriview.

Managing risk is fundamental to the ongoing success of agriculture in our province. As such, the AgriStability enrolment deadline for the existing 2025 program year was extended from April 30 to July 31. This extension was announced this spring to help producers deal with the uncertainty the agriculture sector has been facing with respect to trade disruptions and tariffs.

The Agricultural Water Management Fund is open for applications. The fund supports agricultural producers and local governments to develop water management projects; since 2022, it’s provided over $2 million to help 93 projects across the province obtain drainage approvals that support environmental stewardship and agricultural growth. Applicants can receive up to $95,000 per project based on a cost-sharing approach, which can be used for qualified persons support, technical and engineering costs, and mitigation and rehabilitation works for agricultural water management projects. To find out more, please contact the Water Security Agency at 1-866-727-5420.

A special highlight every year is the Agriculture Student Scholarship, which is a big part of our ongoing commitment to developing young agriculture leaders. This program recognizes four emerging leaders for their leadership, passion and dedication to the industry. Applicants are tasked with submitting an essay or video about solutions to challenges currently happening in agriculture, and this year I’m pleased to say that we received many exceptional submissions from students across the province. Our 2025 grand prize winner is Abbey Norek from Gerald, Saskatchewan, who created an exceptional video about the risks of an aging farming population and the urban-rural disconnect in agriculture.

You can read more about Abbey and the three runners-up—all of whom will be attending the College of Agriculture and Bioresources at the University of Saskatchewan to pursue a Bachelor of Science.

Have a safe and productive summer, and remember to follow our weekly Crop Report online at @SKAgriculture for regular updates on agriculture conditions across Saskatchewan.
