Social Services Cheque Distribution Information

Starting Monday, October 20, mail delivery of all daily cheques is resuming. Any cheque payments issued on and after this date will be sent through Canada Post mail.

On Wednesday, October 22, cheques that are currently held at local service centres for in-person pick-up will be placed in the mail for delivery.

Most clients receive benefit payments by direct deposit, and they have continued to receive payments as usual in their bank account. We encourage clients who still receive cheques by mail to switch to direct deposit.

To ensure there was no delay for clients and caregivers that still receive benefit payments by mail, the ministry provided benefit cheques for in-person pick-up at local service centres from end of September to mid-October.

With Canada Post resuming mail delivery following the shift from a general service disruption to rotating labour action, the ministry is returning to regular mail delivery of benefit payments. In-person pick-up of benefit payments that normally would be sent by mail has ended.

To minimize the potential impact of rotating labour action at Canada Post, the ministry is mailing essential monthly benefits a few days in advance at the end of October for the following programs:

  • Saskatchewan Income Support (SIS)
  • Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disabilities (SAID)
  • Saskatchewan Housing Benefit (SHB)
  • Child and Family Programs payments to youth and caregivers

We continue to closely monitor the impact of rotating strike action on mail delivery and will adjust our planning and response as required.

If you have questions about a benefit payment, or would like to sign up for direct deposit, please contact your worker or ministry contact.
