Who Can be a Living Organ Donor

Anyone can be a donor – family, friends, or even strangers donating anonymously. There is no upper age limit; your overall health is what matters most. 

Why Be a Donor

Living organ donation is sometimes the only option for those waiting for a transplant. Living kidney donation is a safe, medically supported procedure, with most donors resuming their lives within weeks.

Living Organ Donation

Any person 18 years or older can apply to become a living organ donor, are in good mental and physical health, understand what donating a kidney involves and do not expect anything in return.

You cannot donate if you are diagnosed with diabetes, chronic kidney disease, heart disease, are being treated for cancer, or have a body mass index over 35.

You can choose to donate:

  • A kidney – procedure performed right here in Saskatchewan
  • Part of your liver – procedure performed in Edmonton, AB
