Corrections and Policing, through the Ministry of Justice, contributed $300,000 to the City of Moose Jaw for three police officers who conduct comprehensive investigations and work on a number of proactive, community-based policing initiatives in order to help reduce crime.
The Government of Saskatchewan’s Targeted Police Initiatives is responding to community crime-related priorities through the Enhanced Community Policing Program and the Organized/Serious Crimes Task Force Program.
“These Targeted Police Initiatives provide the Moose Jaw Police Service with the capacity to respond to the community’s needs through effective and relevant policing services,” Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell said. “The Moose Jaw Police Service has done an excellent job so far - Moose Jaw already has the lowest crime severity index of any other city in our province.”
“This funding allows the Moose Jaw Police Service to proactively focus on community safety concerns, rather than default to a reactionary service delivery,” Moose Jaw Chief of Police Dale Larsen said. “We are extremely grateful for the annual funding our police service receives from the Government of Saskatchewan.”
This annual funding through the Targeted Police Initiatives offers grants that support police-based efforts to reduce crime, victimization and the prevention and intervention of at-risk populations.
