Federal, provincial and territorial Immigration Ministers will meet in Toronto on November 15 and 16 for a forum entitled: Shaping Strategic Directions for Canada's Immigration System Together.
"The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program has been very important in helping Saskatchewan employers respond to their need for skilled workers," Minister responsible for Immigration Bill Boyd said. "Immigration is a key component of Saskatchewan's growth strategy."
Saskatchewan is experiencing significant economic growth that is creating unprecedented demand for skilled labour. The province will require as many as 75,000 to 90,000 skilled workers over the next five years.
"As the Federal government's immigration transformation agenda unfolds, one of Saskatchewan's main discussion points will be an increase in our annual nomination cap from 4,000 to 6,000, to address our labour shortage," Boyd said.
The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) has been the province's most effective mechanism to facilitate permanent economic immigration to Saskatchewan. Since 2007, 39,000 newcomers have been welcomed to the province.
The SINP is one of the most successful immigration programs in the country in terms of retention rates of newcomers, skills matching and earnings, and accounts for more than 90 per cent of all economic immigration to Saskatchewan.
