HUNTING, FISHING AND TRAPPING HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATED IN SASKATCHEWAN

Released on November 15, 2011

November 15 has been set aside to celebrate Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Day each year in Saskatchewan.

"Hunting, fishing and trapping are an integral part of Saskatchewan's heritage," Environment Minister Dustin Duncan said. "For generations, our province's residents have pursued these activities for food, recreation and commercial and cultural purposes. Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Day tells the world that, in Saskatchewan, hunting, fishing and trapping are part of our way of life, now and in the future."

"The Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation (SWF) is thrilled to be celebrating Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Day," SWF Executive Director Darrell Crabbe said. "Hunting, fishing and trapping are entrenched components of Saskatchewan's heritage and are essential activities for sustainable wildlife management in our province. Thousands of Saskatchewan families enjoy these outdoor activities that leave life-long memories."

The Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Act was passed in the fall of 2009. Hunting, Fishing and Trapping Heritage Day is a special day to celebrate and recognize the significant economic, cultural and social contribution that hunting, fishing and trapping have made to the province and coincides with the opening day of the resident rifle white-tailed deer season.

All hunters are reminded to ensure safety is of foremost importance while in the field. Hunting is a privilege; please get permission to access private land, even when it is not posted.
