UPGRADING THE STAFF RESIDENCE IN MOOSE MOUNTAIN PROVINCIAL PARK

Released on October 4, 2010

The staff residence in Moose Mountain Provincial Park is getting a new roof.

The contractor, G. Hahn Contracting Ltd. of Fort Qu'Appelle, will begin work on the $68,406 project in early October. The company was awarded the contract through a tender that was issued on August 20, 2010.

The existing staff residence in Moose Mountain Provincial Park, which was built in 1964, is in good repair and has been well-maintained, but the roof has an inverted "butterfly" pitch which, over time, has led to water pooling in the low area and leaking into the building. A butterfly roof is low in the middle and high on the edges.

"The staff residence in Moose Mountain Provincial Park provides accommodation for employees during the camping season," Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Bill Hutchinson said. "Replacing the roof will make sure the residence lasts for many more years and continues to serve the staff who work hard to ensure our provincial parks continue to be great places to visit."

The new roof on the Moose Mountain Provincial Park staff residence is among many park upgrades. Since 2008, the government has spent more than $16.2 million to improve the facilities and infrastructure in our provincial parks. It includes adding electrical service to 1,000 campsites. Along with adding and upgrading electrical service, the ministry is also replacing or upgrading some service centres, boat launches, potable water systems and is replacing some picnic tables and barbeques.
