STC PASSENGER FARE INCREASE EFFECTIVE MARCH 1

Released on February 24, 2010

Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC) passenger fares will increase by an average 4.5 per cent March 1.

For an average one way trip of 117 miles (188 km), the extra cost amounts to $1.30. The increase will generate $220,000 in 2010 and $265,000 in annual revenue ongoing, based on current volumes.

"The increase reflects the need for STC to recoup some of its increased costs, as well as revenue loss due to ridership declines, while at the same time deliver on the company's mandate to serve Saskatchewan," STC Acting President and CEO Shawn Grice said. "STC fares are still affordable and comparable to western Canadian rates."

STC will maintain its discounts for seniors, students, children, frequent riders and others.

"We are also looking at different promotions and discounts for 2010 to entice riders," Grice said. "More details on those will be coming in the months ahead."

The last STC passenger rate increase occurred July 1, 2008.
