Plans for rejuvenating long-term care in the city of Swift Current received a boost today with a cash injection from the government.
The Ministry of Health is providing the Cypress Health Region with $450,000 for detailed capital planning to determine the scope of work needed to replace three long-term care facilities in Swift Current. Capital planning is an important step in advancing a project to the approval stage.
"As the MLA from Swift Current, I regularly hear from constituents concerned about our long-term care facilities," Premier Brad Wall said. "These facilities are aging and our government understands that we need to do the work now that will address this situation."
There are currently three long-term care facilities in Swift Current, with a total of 194 long-term care and four respite beds.
"We are extremely appreciative that provincial funding will be made available to initiate the functional planning for long-term care replacement in Swift Current," Cypress Regional Health Authority chairperson Tyler Bragg said. "This project has been a key capital project priority for the health region and its predecessors for some time, and we look forward to working with the Ministry of Health and our community stakeholders in determining the scope and expenses associated with such a project."
Earlier this year, the government also announced the replacement of the Cypress Lodge long-term care facility and Maple Creek Hospital as part of its $152.8 million investment in replacing thirteen outdated long-term care facilities in the province.
The Cypress Health Region employs about 1,650 employees and provides health services to about 44,000 people in the city of Swift Current and southwest Saskatchewan.
