Today, Premier Brad Wall and Hung Yen Province Chairman Nguyen Van Cuong signed a Memorandum of Intent (MOI) on co-operation between the two provinces for a duration of two years.
"I am pleased to sign this memorandum of intent on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, and I am enthusiastic about the possibilities that it represents," Wall said. "I certainly see the potential for Saskatchewan to benefit from this enhanced relationship with our friends in Vietnam, much as our province has over the past three decades benefited from the Vietnamese people who call Saskatchewan home."
The MOI formally establishes a desire by both provinces for increased mutual understanding, friendship and closer economic and technological co-operation. It will serve as the basis for identifying and exploring partnerships specifically in the area of agricultural biotechnology, with the opportunity to expand co-operation to include other areas of mutual interest like labour, employment and educational training.
"If Saskatchewan is to sustain its economic strength in the global context, we need to seek out creative ways to co-operate with other jurisdictions in the pursuit of innovation and growth," Wall said.
