Residents in Outlook will now have access to local health services under one roof with the completion of the new integrated health centre.
Health Minister Don McMorris, Rosetown-Elrose MLA Jim Reiter, Heartland Health Region officials, community leaders and local residents took part in the opening festivities. The area's acute care services, community health, home care, long-term care and a physician clinic are now housed in a multi-wing building that incorporates part of the Pioneer Home building.
"A multi-purpose facility helps control operating costs, while ensuring continuity in health care services for the public," McMorris said. "The new facility improves public access to services, and allows better co-ordination between health care teams."
"I am very pleased with the quality and services that are offered in the new Outlook and District Health Centre," Reiter said. "It is facilities like this that make rural communities like Outlook a viable and attractive place to live."
The facility includes 11 acute care beds and 45 long-term care beds, plus community health services and a primary health clinic.
Construction began in 2006 and was completed in August 2008.
Of the $14.3 million cost of design and construction, the provincial government committed $8.6 million. Local communities and fund-raising activity committed $5.7 million, which includes the cost of non-medical equipment, furniture and primary health care clinic space.
The expansion project is part of a $91 million investment in capital equipment and construction projects by the Ministry of Health this year.
