CROP INSURANCE DEADLINE TO REGISTER POST-HARVEST CLAIMS IS NOVEMBER 15

Released on November 5, 2008

Saskatchewan Crop Insurance reminds customers the final date to file their Production Declaration and register any post-harvest yield-loss claims is November 15.

"Customers must provide their production information to Crop Insurance before they can register any post-harvest yield-loss claims," Crop Insurance general manager Cam Swan said. "Customers are encouraged to provide this information as soon as harvest is complete. This makes the claim process more efficient, allowing Crop Insurance to better allocate adjusting resources so that claims can be finalized and indemnities paid sooner."

Production information is also used to calculate the customer's annual yield. If this information is not provided to Crop Insurance, the customer's annual yield will be set at zero, reducing their future coverage by 10 per cent.

Claims registered between November 16 and December 31 will have indemnities reduced by 25 per cent and claims will not be accepted after December 31. In addition, customers are reminded that claims may be denied if they are submitted more than 15 days after harvest is generally completed in the area.

Customers who feel they will not be able to complete harvest by November 15 must contact Crop Insurance to request an extension of insurance. An extension of insurance means the customer will be insured for yield and quality losses that occur after November 15, until their final adjustment is made after they are done harvest, but no later than June 10, 2009. Coverage will only be extended if harvest has generally not been completed in their area.
