The Government of Saskatchewan today signed an Aboriginal Employment Development (AED) partnership agreement with the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN) to increase job opportunities for Saskatchewan Aboriginal people in health care.
"I commend SALPN for joining with the Government of Saskatchewan in preparing workplaces to foster the creation of a representative workforce," First Nations and Métis Relations Minister June Draude said. "Today is a day of celebration, as our new partner joins us in the quest to achieve that vision."
"This is an historic agreement for SALPN," SALPN council president Cynthia Gutek said. "We have a long standing commitment to supporting and building diversity within the LPN profession and with SALPN. In 2006, SALPN was awarded the Saskatchewan Labour Force Development Board "Training for Excellence Award" for our work with the Aboriginal Employment Development Program.
"Working with the Ministry of First Nations and Métis Relations is an exciting opportunity and responsibility. SALPN and the LPN profession must continue to work toward the day when we truly reflect the many faces of the people we serve."
The Ministry of First Nations and Metis Relations is working with its partners to meet provincial labour market needs through work place preparation. By building linkages to the First Nations and Métis workforce, these partnerships strive to ensure representation at all occupational levels. This participation is integral to Saskatchewan's future success.
