SASKATCHEWAN YOUTH SUMMIT INCREASED TO 600 PARTICIPANTS

Very strong interest and high demand has led to an increase in the number of participants in the upcoming Saskatchewan Youth Summit. The plan was originally to include 450 participants, 300 youth and 150 representatives from business, labour, education and government. Due to the overwhelming response, the number of participants were increased to 400 youth and 200 stakeholders. All available spaces are now full and applications are no longer being accepted.

The first Saskatchewan Youth Summit will take place at the Teacher's Credit Union Place in Saskatoon on February 2 and 3. The event was promised in the October 2006 Speech from the Throne as part of the Government's strategy to attract and retain young people in the province.

"I am truly excited that so many young people have responded and want to talk about their vision for Saskatchewan," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "It is today's youth who will be the leaders of tomorrow and this is an exciting time for them to get connected and share their enthusiasm with each other, with government and with business."

The Youth Summit will bring together young people from the province with representatives from business, education and training, labour and government. Breakout sessions will feature discussion in a number of key areas, including Youth Friendly Workplaces; Building an Inclusive Saskatchewan; Cool Communities; Making it Happen and Saskatchewan in 2020.

Journalist Kaveri Bittira is hosting the events at the Youth Summit. Some of the remarkable young people who will be speaking include: Jason Loutit (Aboriginal role model and motivational speaker), Bevin Bradley (Saskatchewan artist), Scott Carson (entrepreneur), Brad Zakreski (entrepreneur) and Chris Richards (engineer).

The Saskatchewan Youth Summit is part of the Government's commitment to make Saskatchewan the best place for young people to live, work and build their future.
