The Government of Saskatchewan today signed an agreement to increase job opportunities for Saskatchewan First Nations people.
The Department of First Nations and Métis Relations and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada signed an Aboriginal Employment Development Program (AEDP) partnership agreement with the Little Black Bear First Nation. This is the 77th partnership signed since the inception of the program.
“The Aboriginal Employment Development Program creates a synergy where partners work with the Saskatchewan Government toward achieving full participation of all people in the economy of our province,” First Nations and Métis Relations Minister Maynard Sonntag said. “We share a common vision in Saskatchewan that provides all families with the opportunity to succeed and realize their dreams of building a better future right here in Saskatchewan.”
“Our community has embarked upon a new strategy to advance our peoples education and employment skills to meet our goal of enhancing and providing better opportunities for full employment of all our band members,” Little Black Bear First Nation Chief Clarence Bellegarde said. “This agreement will be an important step in the process of meeting the goals and objectives of our strategic plan. We look forward to participating in this partnership in a positive and meaningful manner and building a working relationship that will benefit both our on-reserve membership and those in the urban communities.”
Through the Aboriginal Employment Development Program, the Saskatchewan Government is working to build a representative workforce in which First Nations and Métis people are represented at all occupational levels in proportion to their population numbers in the province.
Little Black Bear First Nation is located approximately 100 km northeast of Regina.
