Information Services Corporation (ISC) of Saskatchewan had its second consecutive profitable year in 2005, resulting in a profit of $8.3 million for the registry and land services Crown corporation, following a comparable $8.3 million profit in 2004 and a loss of $5.8 million in 2003.
"The employees and leadership of ISC are to be congratulated for delivering another excellent year financially and operationally," Minister responsible for ISC Eric Cline said.
Financial highlights in 2005 included:
· Revenues of $45.8 million were posted in 2005, compared to $44.1 million in 2004;
· Operating expenses were $37.5 million in 2005, compared to $35.8 million in 2004; and
· $12 million in debt was repaid in 2005, compared to $11.9 million in 2004, for a total of approximately $24 million paid down on accumulated deficit over the past two years.
The strong financial numbers were influenced through prudent resource and expenditure management throughout the corporation and higher than forecasted revenues driven by a number of unexpected high-value transactions in the Land Registry.
Here are some highlights from 2005:
· Requirements were completed and submitted for Level II certification from the National Quality Institute (NQI) in its Canadian Criteria for Public Service Excellence program. NQI quality standards are among the highest in the world for private and public sector corporations and ISC will continue to pursue higher levels within the program;
· The new online Saskatchewan Personal Property Registry (SPPR) was developed in 2005 and successfully launched in February 2006. The SPPR is the registry where liens are registered against personal property. It is a searchable public registry that can be accessed by consumers for a nominal fee when buying used cars, farm machinery or other equipment;
· The Online Submission (OLS) tool, which provides an alternate to the forms-based packet submission process, was launched in September 2005. Packet rejection rates have dropped dramatically, from 26.2 per cent to 7.2 per cent since implementation; and
· Because the land registry pre-dates the province itself, it was a natural fit for ISC to become actively involved in the province's centennial celebrations. ISC presented more than 600 framed land grants to recipients of the Century Family Farm Award, held a children's art contest that garnered over 2,300 entries and offered the centennial essay contest that involved Grade 12 students from 19 schools across the province. As well, ISC helped honour Saskatchewan's war casualties by sponsoring the book Age Shall not Weary Them: Saskatchewan Remembers its War Dead by Bill Barry, Doug Chisholm and Beth Parsons.
The theme of the 2005 ISC Annual Report is "Connecting with Communities". The theme reflects ISC's commitment to building and maintaining close relationships with employees, customers, partners and stakeholders, and leveraging those relationships to build and grow the organization.
"I'm very proud of our accomplishments in 2005 – we had excellent corporate performance and saw improvements in most of our service levels. A big part of our success can be attributed to our strong relationship with customers and our close collaboration with them in the creation of new products and services. Our Online Submission tool is an excellent example – more customers are satisfied and those using the new tool have seen significantly lower rejection rates," ISC president and CEO Mark MacLeod said.
