DEPUTY MINISTER OF NORTHERN AFFAIRS APPOINTED

Premier Lorne Calvert today announced the appointment of Alan Hilton as Deputy Minister of Northern Affairs. His appointment takes effect September 19th, 2005.

Hilton has been with the Government of Saskatchewan since 1981. He has worked in a number of departments during his career with the public service in Saskatchewan, notably gaining a series of progressively senior appointments in the area of intergovernmental relations. Most recently, Hilton has served as Associate Deputy Minister, Federal-Provincial Relations and Immigration, with the Department of Government Relations.

"I am pleased to have Mr. Hilton assume this role within the public service," Calvert said. "His understanding of the issues facing individuals and communities in Northern Saskatchewan, as well as his experience working with a variety of different governments and departments, will serve him well as he joins the Department of Northern Affairs."

Larry Steeves, the current Deputy Minister of Northern Affairs, will join the Department of Learning as the Associate Deputy Minister, effective September 19th, 2005.
