IMPROVEMENTS TO HIGHWAY 155 NEAR GREEN LAKE

Released on June 15, 2005

Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation has commenced work to improve Highway 155 north of Green Lake.

The construction consists of converting an existing thin membrane surface (TMS) to a paved standard on Highway 155 from 20 km to 35.12 km north of its junction with Highway 55 at Green Lake, for a total distance of 15.12 km.

"This project will improve an important northern trade and tourism route," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "The safe and efficient transportation of people, goods, and services in Saskatchewan drives economic development and is of vital importance. This year, the department is upgrading a total of 117 km of TMS highways as we continue to enhance our provincial road network to meet the demands of the 21st century."

The estimated value of this project is $2.5 million and is expected to be complete by approximately July 15th, weather permitting. The finished road surface will provide 3.5 m driving lanes and 1 m shoulders.

The public is advised that traffic flow through the construction area will be disrupted with traffic required to reduce speeds to 60 km/h or less. Traffic may be restricted to one lane with flagpersons and pilot vehicles in attendance to guide traffic through the construction area. Traffic flows should not be disrupted during the gravel haul to the project, although traffic will encounter trucks hauling gravel along the haul route.
