SCHOOLPLUS RECOGNIZED AT BISHOP ROBORECKI SCHOOL

Released on October 20, 2004

Learning Minister Andrew Thomson today recognized the good work being done at Bishop Roborecki School in Saskatoon at a SchoolPLUS Education Week celebration.

"The programs offered at Bishop Roborecki exemplify the opportunities that SchoolPLUS presents and demonstrates a new approach to even more positive learning experiences for Saskatchewan students," Thomson said.

"Bishop Roborecki is one of many schools and communities that have actively embraced SchoolPLUS and is improving services to students through an excellent learning program targeting literacy and math, strong partnerships and a strong transition program that prepares students for high school."

Forty school divisions, including Saskatoon's Catholic School Division, are participating in the SchoolPLUS School and Division Improvement initiative.

"Saskatoon Catholic schools are committed to implementing SchoolPLUS in the spirit it is intended," Saskatoon Catholic School Division Director Helen Horsman said. "Our schools are tailoring this concept to their own individual communities and cultures within the context of the framework created by Saskatchewan Learning and the school division. We look forward to continuing to partner with our community and to nurture relationships to work toward providing a seamless service system for children and their families."

"SchoolPLUS is an important part of our commitment to making the education system more relevant to students and more responsive to community needs," Thomson said.

The province has introduced SchoolPLUS as an integrated approach to dealing with the new role of schools as identified in the Task Force report of 2001. The government intends to integrate SchoolPLUS programming province-wide during this term of office.
