SASKATCHEWAN PROMOTED AT RIDER AWAY GAMES

Released on June 17, 2003

With the eyes of Canadian football fans on Saskatchewan this season, the public and private sectors are using the opportunity to launch a special new promotion of the province at Roughrider away games.

The promotions include pre-game meetings with University of Regina and Saskatchewan alumni and provincial expatriates, brochures to people in the stadium, promotions on the Jumbotron and a half-time in-stadium Saskatchewan trivia contest for the Grey Cup in Regina this fall.

"We are telling the rest of Canada that Saskatchewan is a great place to live, work and do business, where there really is a wide open future full of opportunities," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "The popularity of the Riders is a natural opportunity to promote exciting events and opportunities happening in the province."

The CFL promotion is aimed at generating awareness about Saskatchewan's economic and cultural achievements and tourist attractions. It is also designed to raise awareness of major sporting events taking place in Saskatchewan, like the 2003 Grey Cup, the 2004 Nokia Brier and the 2005 Canada Summer Games during Saskatchewan's centennial year.

To capture the attention of football fans at each of four away games in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary and Vancouver, there will be a major prize draw for a Gala Grey Cup Getaway – a trip for two to the Grey Cup in Regina.

The government's partners in the first promotion in Toronto include: the Universities of Regina and Saskatchewan, City of Regina, Tourism Saskatchewan, Tumblers Western Pizza, Casino Regina, Purolator Courier, Nokia Brier, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Grey Cup Organizing Committee and the CFL. These promotions are part of the province's Our Future is Wide Open campaign.
