Resurfacing is now complete on a 13 km section of Highway 9 south of
Yorkton.
"Resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways,"
Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "The project has
helped revitalize Highway 9 - enhancing business and social opportunities
in the area."
The $1.2 million improvement project on Highway 9 began at the Junction of
Highways 9 and 15, and continued south for 13 km. Anderson Rental and
Paving Ltd. was awarded the contract for the resurfacing project.
"In Saskatchewan, highways are a lifeline - connecting us to one another
and driving economic development," Wartman said. "The completed
improvements to Highway 9 demonstrate once again that transportation is a
priority for the Government of Saskatchewan."
The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in
2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved
this year.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange
Zone and to also watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during
this season of heavy road construction.
