RESURFACING UNDERWAY SOUTH OF GULL LAKE
Released on May 29, 2002
Resurfacing has begun on a 22.5 km section of Highway 37 south of Gull Lake.
"This resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways,"
Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "Work on this $3.1
million project is now underway, and should be completed by early July. An
estimated 51 full-time workers will be needed to complete the project."
The improvement project on Highway 37 began at Gull Lake and will continue
south for 22.5 km. Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. was awarded the contract.
"Highway 37 has seen an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and
tear," Wartman said. "The resurfacing project now underway near Gull Lake
will help to revitalize this section of highway. Saskatchewan Highways and
Transportation is working hard to fix roads across the province to improve
driver safety."
This project was identified in the 2001/02 Winter Tender Schedule worth an
estimated $86.8 million for Saskatchewan highway work. The Winter Tender
Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway improvements this
spring.
The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in
2002/03. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this
year.
