191 COMMUNITIES TO RECEIVE SASKTEL HIGH SPEED INTERNET

Released on March 15, 2002

SaskTel is expanding its High Speed Internet service to 191 more

Saskatchewan communities over the next two years.

"This expansion is a direct result of the Government of Saskatchewan's

CommunityNet program and financial support for CommunityNet from the

Government of Canada," Crown Investments Corporation Minister Maynard

Sonntag said. "Residents and business owners in communities from La Loche

to Creighton to Consul to Gainsborough will soon have high speed access to

this valuable educational, communications and entertainment service.

"Saskatchewan residents today can choose from some of the biggest

corporations in the world to supply their communications needs, such as

Internet service. For this reason, SaskTel has evolved from a provider of

basic phone service to a complete communications provider. Growth

initiatives allow SaskTel to live up to its original mandate - providing

the best possible services at the lowest possible cost."

Since 1995, SaskTel has invested more than $56 million to offer a high

quality, price-competitive High Speed Internet service in 46 Saskatchewan

communities. When this latest expansion is completed (see attached list),

about 71 per cent of Saskatchewan's population will have access to

SaskTel's High Speed Internet service. SaskTel is currently researching a

combination wireless/wireline service option that will be required for

SaskTel to achieve its future goal of reaching 95 per cent of

Saskatchewan's population.

The technical synergies provided by CommunityNet have made it possible for

SaskTel to expand its commercial high speed Internet far more quickly than

was originally intended. The province's CommunityNet high speed Internet

initiative will connect more than 1,500 educational institutions, health

care facilities and government offices in 366 Saskatchewan locations.

SaskTel is the leading full-service communications company in Saskatchewan,

offering complete wireline, wireless, Internet and e-business solutions

over a state-of-the-art, digital network. SaskTel maintains investments in

companies that provide a variety of products and services. For more
