More families in North Battleford will have access to affordable housing.
The housing is being made possible through the province's $3.3 million
purchase and renovation of Cec Davis Estates, which was officially opened
today.
"The province is committed to ensuring that Saskatchewan people have access
to suitable and affordable housing," Social Services Minister Glenn Hagel
said. "Projects like Cec Davis Estates help fulfill that commitment by
providing families with a safe, secure place to call home."
The townhouse complex consists of 24 two-bedroom and 36 three-bedroom
units. Saskatchewan Housing Corporation purchased the units in May, 1999
for $1.6 million and also commissioned $1.7 million in renovations to help
improve the quality of life for future residents. The housing is available
to low to moderate-income families in need of affordable housing.
Upgrades include new exterior doors and windows, new siding and insulation,
new soffit, fascia and gutters, as well as new front steps, landscape work,
improved parking and sidewalks, and new decks and cement patios.
A playground area was also created on site.
Interior renovations included new kitchen cabinets, flooring, bathroom
work, painting, and replacement of some furnaces and water heaters.
Cec Davis Estates is named after long-time North Battleford resident Cecil
Davis. Davis is the longest-serving housing authority board member in the
province, having served on the board of the North Battleford Housing
Authority since its inception in 1964. He has held the position of vice-
chair for 38 years and has been instrumental in helping to expand the
province's portfolio of social and affordable housing units in the North
Battleford area.
