CAMPSITE ELECTRIFICATION IN PROVINCIAL PARKS

Released on June 6, 2002

There will be more electrical services for campers at four provincial parks

this year.

Work is underway on the installation of new electrical outlets at the

Kimball Lake campground in Meadow Lake Provincial Park.

The other electrification projects are scheduled this fall in Cypress

Hills, Greenwater Lake, and Danielson provincial parks.

"Park visitors tell us they prefer having a few amenities to roughing it,"

Acting Minister of Environment Buckley Belanger said. "An electrical

outlet at the campsite has become very popular."

Camping is one of the main recreational activities in provincial parks and

the parks host about three-quarters of all the camping in the province.

Approximately 2.4 million people visit Saskatchewan provincial parks each

year.

The total cost of these four projects is $368,000 and is funded in part by

the province's Centenary Fund. The Centenary Fund is a four-year $120-

million program to complete important capital projects as Saskatchewan

approaches its centennial in 2005.
