RESURFACING COMPLETE SOUTH OF GULL LAKE

Released on July 11, 2002

Resurfacing on a 22.5 km section of Highway 37 south of Gull Lake is now

complete.

"This resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways,"

Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "The project has

helped revitalize this highway."

The $3.1 million improvement project on Highway 37 began at Gull Lake and

continued south for 22.5 km.

This project was identified in the 2001-02 Winter Tender Schedule worth an

estimated $86.8 million for Saskatchewan highways. The Winter Tender

Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway improvements each

spring.

"In Saskatchewan, highways are a lifeline - connecting us to one another

and driving economic development," Wartman said. "The completed

improvements to Highway 35 demonstrate once again that transportation is a

priority for the Government of Saskatchewan."

The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in

2002-03. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this

year.

Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange

Zone and to also watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during

this season of heavy road construction.
