The Province of Saskatchewan will mark the recent death of Princess
Margaret by lowering flags on government buildings to half mast.
Condolence books will also be available to the public. The lieutenant
governor is issuing a message of condolences which will be sent to the
Queen.
Princess Margaret, sister of the Queen, died in London this past Saturday,
February 9th. In accordance with standard flag procedures, flags on all
provincial government buildings will remain at half mast until sunset on
the day of the funeral, February 15th.
Condolence books will be available for the public in Regina at Government
House, 4607 Dewdney Avenue (ballroom entrance), from noon until 5:00 PM
today and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 12th, until Friday, February
15th. People can also sign a condolence book in Saskatoon at the Cabinet
Office, 315 - 22nd Street East, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Tuesday, February
12th, to Friday, February 15th. These condolence books will be forwarded
to Buckingham Palace at a later date.
Princess Margaret visited Saskatchewan twice: in 1958, when she was in
Prince Albert and Waskesiu; and in 1980, when she was a guest at the
province's 75th anniversary celebrations. In the 1980 tour, the princess
was a popular visitor in Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Muskoday First Nation,
Zenon Park, Tisdale and The Battlefords, where she received a painting by
renowned artist Allen Sapp as a gift from the province.
