Resurfacing is now complete on 20.6 km section of Highway 13 west of
Pangman.
"This resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways,"
Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "The project has
helped revitalize Highway 13 - improving a key east-west trade and
transportation corridor."
The $2.5 million improvement project began 5 km west of the junction with
Highway 6, and continued to Ogema. Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. was awarded
the contract for the resurfacing project.
"In Saskatchewan, highways are a lifeline - connecting us to one another
and driving economic development," Wartman said. "The completed
improvements to Highway 13 demonstrate once again that transportation is a
priority for the Government of Saskatchewan."
Last construction season a total of 42 km of Highway 13 was resurfaced near
Stoughton, Weyburn and Assiniboia. This construction season, 99 km will be
resurfaced or paved near Arcola, Trossachs, Pangman, Ogema, Lafleche and
Hazenmore.
The government has committed $293 million to building better highways in
2002-2003. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved
this year.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange
Zone and to also watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during
this season of heavy road construction.
