PREMIER CALVERT RETURNS HOME

Released on September 13, 2001

After being grounded in Ottawa since Tuesday, Premier Lorne Calvert finally

made it home to Saskatchewan today.

"It is a comforting feeling to step off the plane in Regina and have your

feet safely planted back on Saskatchewan soil," Calvert said. "While we

were forced to spend a couple of extra days in Ottawa, this small

inconvenience pales in comparison to the hardships being faced by so many

as they grapple with the tragedy in the United States that has gripped all

of us."

Premier Calvert could have received special clearance to return to

Saskatchewan yesterday on the government aircraft, but he chose to remain

in Ottawa.

"I was not prepared to even think about travelling until I was sure more

important flights got off the ground," Calvert said. "Those who lost or

have injured or missing family members and were waiting to get a flight

were the priority. I was not willing to bump one of those flights from the

que."

Premier Calvert took the time this morning before he left Ottawa to stop at

the U-S embassy and sign the book of condolence for victims and their

families of the attack on America. Calvert also placed flowers and a card

near the embassy gates. The card had a simple message - "May God Bless"

signed: Premier Lorne Calvert and the people of Saskatchewan.
