EXTREME FIRE HAZARD IN CYPRESS HILLS

Released on September 6, 2001

Due to ongoing dry conditions and extreme fire hazard, Environment and

Resource Management (SERM) has expanded the ban on all open fires in the

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park to prohibit entry or occupancy of any

part of the West Block.

In the Centre Block, open fires are restricted to the use of briquettes

only, in fire pits or barbeques approved by SERM and traffic is restricted

to the black-top road into the core area.

The ban and travel restrictions will remain in effect until further

notification.

Anyone observing a fire is encouraged to report it to the nearest SERM

office or call the toll-free Firewatch number, 1-800-667-9660.
