RESEARCH PARK OPENS FLAGSHIP BUILDING

Released on October 15, 2001

The province's information technology (IT) sector got a boost today as

Premier Lorne Calvert officially opened The Terrace, the flagship building

at Regina Research Park.

The Terrace, at 10 Research Drive, is the fourth building in the research

park and is designed to be the centrepiece of the site. It is home to

several IT companies, including Information Services Corporation of

Saskatchewan (ISC), Loose Foot Computing and Technology Management

Corporation.

"Information technology is a key sector for our province in terms of the

opportunities it offers for the future," Calvert said. "The work being

done in The Terrace will help put Saskatchewan at the forefront of the

global IT revolution."

Regina Research Park, like Innovation Place in Saskatoon, is a development

of the Saskatchewan Opportunities Corporation (SOCO). The two research

parks offer an environment that supports collaboration, knowledge-sharing

and increased productivity through the clustering of like-minded

organizations.

"The goal of Regina Research Park is to contribute to the growth and

financial success of its tenants," Minister Responsible for SOCO Eldon

Lautermilch said. "In turn, that will help us to develop and keep the best

and brightest young minds in our province."

The 137 tenants in Saskatchewan's two research parks employ almost 2,500

people in such fields as biotechnology, petroleum technology and

information technology. The parks generate $250 million in economic

activity annually.
