SGI CANADA CHARITY CLASSIC KICKS OFF ITS NINTH YEAR

Released on October 4, 2001

The attention of the curling world will be focused on Regina over the

Thanksgiving weekend. From Oct. 4th to 8th some of the top men's and

women's curling teams will be competing in the 2001 SGI CANADA Charity

Classic.

"We are confident that fans will be impressed and greatly entertained by

the world-class talent that will be on the ice at the Charity Classic,"

Crown Investments Corporation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "As well,

Saskatchewan people are known for their support of charities. So they'll

be happy to know that proceeds from this year's Classic will benefit the

Saskatchewan chapter of Kids Help Phone."

Kids Help Phone is the only national, toll-free, confidential counselling

service for children and youth. It is there for young people, 24-hours a

day, every day of the year, in both English and French.

Since 1993, the SGI CANADA Charity Classic has raised over $150,000 for

local charities. The Charity Classic is organized and staffed by

volunteers. All operating revenue is raised through ticket sales and

sponsorship from SGI CANADA brokers and business partners.

The 2001 Charity Classic features 32 men's teams competing for $60,000 in

prize money. The women's division features 16 teams competing in the

Casino Regina Women's Challenge for $15,000 in prize money.

Once again, the SGI CANADA Charity Classic features many of the world's top

curling teams. This year the Classic welcomes the Peter Lindholm rink from

Sweden and the Hammy McMillan rink from Scotland. There are also Canadian

favourites like Wayne Middaugh and Guy Hemmings.

Well-known women's teams include two-time Charity Classic Casino Regina

Women's Challenge champion Patty Rocheleau, reigning Saskatchewan

provincial women's champion Michelle Ridgway and 2000 USA national champion

Amy Wright, just to name a few.

Both men's and women's curling action will begin Oct. 4th. Curlers will be

competing at both the Agridome and the Tartan Curling Club.

Tickets are on sale now at SGI head office, Regina SGI Claims branches,

participating SGI CANADA brokers' offices and at the doors of the Agridome

and Tartan Curling Club. A five-day pass is only $30 and a single day pass

is $12. Both include parking and great off-ice entertainment.
