NEW WEYBURN LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY
Released on May 11, 2001
Residents in Weyburn are turning the sod today for a new, $19.7 million
long-term care facility, after getting the final go-ahead from the
provincial government.
The new facility will replace the current outdated Souris Valley Extended
Care Centre and offer long-term care services to residents from across the
district.
"We have worked very closely with the South Central Health District to
reach this agreement and I am very pleased to announce our commitment of
more than $13 million toward this new facility," Health Minister John
Nilson said. "Our government is committed to providing accessible, quality
health care services and to supporting the needs of our most vulnerable
residents."
Nilson was on hand at a sod-turning in Weyburn today that involved
community members and officials from the health district, city and rural
municipality.
The new facility, to be known as Tatagwa View, will include 135 long-term
care beds, respite services and other support services such as
physiotherapy.
"This is a very exciting day for everyone involved in this project," South
Central District Health Board Chair Ernest Elder said. "I look forward to
continuing to work together with our partners as we move into the
construction phase of this project and work to provide a new, home-like
environment for our long-term care residents."
The $19.7 million pricetag includes $17.5 million for construction and $2.2
million for furnishing and equipment.
