NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Released on March 16, 2001

There are some new faces on the board of the Lloydminster Health District.

Health Minister John Nilson has recently appointed five new members to the

district health board and named a new chair and vice-chair.

"The members appointed have a broad range of experience and perspectives,"

Nilson said. "I am looking forward to working with them and the entire

board. Together, our goal will be to provide accessible, quality health

care services that are within our financial means."

Stan Bugiera and Bob Steeg from Saskatchewan along with William Kondro,

Glenn Allen Tabish and Lou Crockett from Alberta will join seven existing

board members. Current board member and acting chair Vicki Helm will

assume the role of chair. Bob Steeg has been appointed vice-chair.

"I am very pleased we now have a full complement of board members,"

Lloydminster Health District Board Chair Vicki Helm said. "We are looking

forward to continuing to work with government in meeting the health needs

of the people served by the Lloydminster Health District."

"While our publicly funded health care system is fundamentally sound,

change will be necessary in order to sustain it into the future," Nilson

said. "The combined leadership skills of this new health board will prove

to be very important as we discuss and respond to the recommendations of

the Commission on Medicare, expected this spring."

Due to the unique legislative and service delivery arrangements in the

Lloydminster area, all members of the Lloydminster Health Board are

appointed by the Saskatchewan Minister of Health.

The newly appointed members were chosen from a total of 21 nominations

submitted by residents in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
