A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 13.2 km of Highway 1 near
Grenfell this construction season.
"Work on this nearly $1.9 million resurfacing project is anticipated to
begin in mid-August of 2001 and should be completed by mid-October,"
Highways and Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson said. "Completion of
this job will require an estimated 24 full-time workers."
The resurfacing project on Highway 1 will begin at the junction of Highways
1 and 47, (8 km west of Grenfell) and will continue a further 13.2 km west.
Morsky Construction Ltd. of Regina was awarded this resurfacing project.
This resurfacing project was identified as one of the projects in the
2000/2001 Winter Tender Schedule for Saskatchewan highway work. The Winter
Tender Schedule is worth an estimated $90 million and ensures timely and
efficient delivery of highway improvements this spring.
"It's essential to keep our provincial sections of the national highway
system in good condition," Atkinson said. "By strengthening and
resurfacing this section, Highway 1 by Grenfell will be capable of handling
heavier traffic loads and volumes.
"Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation is working hard to fix roads
across the province to improve driver safety."
