Finance Minister Eric Cline and Minister Responsible for the Information
Highway Joanne Crofford officially launched today an e-filing system that
will cut red tape for Saskatchewan businesses.
Saskatchewan Electronic Tax System (SETS) allows businesses and third party
service providers, such as accounting firms, to file and pay provincial tax
returns over the Internet.
"Our government is committed to creating and maintaining a business-
friendly environment. This system, which is secure, fast, easy and
convenient, reduces the amount of time which business people will have to
spend on tax-related paperwork," Cline said.
SETS will allow businesses to file and pay the following tax returns:
Provincial Sales Tax (PST), Liquor Consumption Tax, Tobacco Tax, Fuel Tax,
Beverage Container Program, and Corporation Capital Tax (instalments
only). Measures are being taken to add Insurance Premiums Tax.
"Saskatchewan has always been ahead of its time and especially in making
this technology work for people. I am proud to say that SETS is the first
program of its kind in Canada. We hope it can be a prototype for other
jurisdictions," Crofford said.
SETS will operate on a pilot basis until September, when it will become
fully operational. Interested parties may access the SETS web site to
become familiar with the service and to obtain an application to become
SETS users. The web site is located at:
