INVESTING IN NUTRACEUTICAL COMPANY

Released on July 24, 2001

The Agri-Food Equity Fund (AFEF) has invested $135,000 in Nutravim

Nutraceuticals Ltd., Saskatchewan's only commercial processing plant for

nutraceuticals.

Opened in January this year, the $1.3-million Moose Jaw plant bottles oils

and encapsulates herbs, vitamins and mineral supplements for the health

food industry in Canada and the United States.

Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Deb Higgins, speaking on behalf of Deputy Premier and

Agriculture and Food Minister Clay Serby, said the new plant provides the

opportunity for Saskatchewan's herb and spice industry to process its

product in the province and to add value before export.

"This new facility is an important service for Saskatchewan's herb and

spice producers who are growing and marketing nutraceutical products,"

Higgins said. "This plant enhances agricultural diversification in the

province.

"Programs such as the Agri-Food Equity Fund are important factors in the

government's ongoing efforts to encourage crop diversification, expansion

of value-added capacity and increased exports," Higgins said.

The Agri-Food Equity fund has invested in more than 20 projects since its

establishment in 1994. The Government of Saskatchewan committed $35

million to the fund for expansion of the value-added sector of the

agriculture and food industry.
