ROMANOW CALLS BY-ELECTION FOR FEB 26

Voters in the constituency of Regina Elphinstone will go to the polls February

26 in a by-election, Premier Roy Romanow announced today.



"Our government ensures no constituency goes unrepresented longer than six

months," Romanow said. "This by-election will mean the people in Regina

Elphinstone will have a new MLA for the spring sitting of the legislature."



The government passed legislation in 1992 to ensure no seat remains vacant

longer than six months.



The new MLA for Regina Elphinstone will replace Dwain Lingenfelter who resigned

on August 31, 2000.
