SURFACING ON HIGHWAY 23 NEAR TISDALE

Released on January 22, 2001

A tender has been awarded for resurfacing 13.6 km of Highway 23 near Tisdale in

the upcoming construction season.

"Work for this $1.9 million resurfacing project is anticipated to begin in

early May of 2001 and should be completed in July," Highways and Transportation

Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an

estimated 44 full-time workers."

The resurfacing project on Highway 23 will begin eight kilometres northwest of

the junction of Highways 38 and 23 and will continue for 13.6 km. Gravel is

being crushed and hauled in the Bjorkdale area and should be completed by mid

February.

Warner Construction Co. Ltd. of Saskatchewan was awarded this project.

This resurfacing project was identified in the 2000/2001 Winter Tender Schedule

for Saskatchewan highway work, worth an estimated $90 million. The Winter

Tender Schedule ensures timely and efficient delivery of highway improvements

this spring.

"Highway 23 is a main route that leads to Greenwater Provincial Park, which is

a popular tourism destination in Saskatchewan," Sonntag said. "Improving

conditions on Highway 23 will help to provide for a safe drive for visitors to

the lake."
