BY-ELECTION IN SASKATOON-RIVERSDALE

Released on February 19, 2001

Voters in Saskatoon-Riversdale will be going to the polls on March 19th.

Premier Lorne Calvert called the by-election today following the resignation of

the constituency's long time MLA, Roy Romanow.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank Roy Romanow for his years of

dedicated service to the people of Saskatchewan," Calvert said. "He has led a

government that re-established the foundation upon which the future of our

province will be built.

"The people of Riversdale were particularly pleased to have such an outstanding

MLA. They can justifiably take pride in his contributions to their province

and country."

Romanow was MLA for Saskatoon-Riversdale from 1967-1982 and from 1986-2001.
