YOUTH CONTEST APPOINTS JUDGES

Released on December 3, 2001

An impressive group of prominent Saskatchewanians will judge the Only in

Saskatchewan youth contest -- now accessible in both official languages.

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock will serve as an honorary judge for

the contest, which encourages Saskatchewan young people to express their

career aspirations and hopes for the province.

Other judges include Arthur Whetstone, President of the Saskatchewan

Chamber of Commerce; Gary Shaddock, Past President of the Saskatchewan

School Trustees Association; and Robert Revet, President of the Conseil de

la co-operation de la Saskatchewan (CCS), who will serve as a bilingual

judge. Three youth members, Amy Sandeski, Sean McEachern, and Nicholas

Hill, have been appointed from the province's Youth Provincial Action

Committee on the Economy (Youth PACE).

"We have outstanding Saskatchewan leaders to judge what we anticipate to be

incredible entries from our students and youth," Culture, Youth and

Recreation Minister Joanne Crofford said. "These judges will have a tough

but exciting job ahead of them."

Only in Saskatchewan is a unique contest, which is open to Saskatchewan

youth aged 8 to 24. The contest encourages participants to share their

Saskatchewan career dreams and stories of success through artwork, video

submissions, Web site design or essay. Entrants will have a chance to win

one of six prizes of $1,000 each.

A bilingual component has also been added. Youth are now able to enter the

contest in both official languages through the province's Office of French-

language Co-ordination and with the collaboration of the Division scolaire

francophone (DSF) #310.

"Only in Saskatchewan is about hearing the plans and success stories of the

youth in our province; now we can hear those stories in either official

language," Crofford said. "This is sure to bring another remarkable

dimension to the initiative."
