FUNDING FOR MARTENSVILLE CIVIC CENTRE

Released on August 31, 2001

The doors will open soon on a new Civic Centre in Martensville, with the

assistance of a $45,000 grant from the province's Centenary Fund.

Rural Revitalization and Highways and Transportation Minister Pat Atkinson,

on behalf of Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Ron Osika, made the

announcement today at a ribbon cutting ceremony during a stop of the

Dialogue with Saskatchewan bus tour.

A former school building will be re-developed to accommodate library

facilities, a meeting space, a pre-school, a public health nurse baby

clinic, a youth centre and an emergency services training institute.

The funding will be allocated over the next two years - $18,500 this year

and $26,500 next year.

"The government of Saskatchewan is pleased to support this new facility in

Martensville," Atkinson said. "Libraries and recreation facilities are

extremely important to the quality of life in Saskatchewan communities."

The Centenary Fund was established to leave a legacy of Saskatchewan's

centennial for future generations. Leading up to the centennial

celebrations in 2005, the government is funding projects that are of

provincial or regional interest and develop municipal infrastructure.
