CASINO EXPANSION PAYS DIVIDENDS

Released on April 9, 2001

Construction has just barely started on Casino Regina's $24 million

expansion project and it's already attracting new business to Regina.

It was learned today Regina was chosen over Halifax, Hull and Edmonton to

host the Canadian Gaming Summit and Exhibition April 9th-11th, 2002.

"The Canadian Gaming Summit will bring an estimated $1.7 million in

economic spin-offs to the City of Regina, demonstrating the investment

being made to improve Casino Regina is already paying dividends," Minister

Responsible for the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation Kim Trew said.

"The Canadian Gaming Summit is one of the largest gaming exhibitions in

North America," Founder and Chair Ivan Sack said. "It is the only

conference that brings together Canada's casino, lottery, horse racing and

bingo sectors as well as its gaming regulators, suppliers and service

providers.

"Casino Regina's exciting expansion plans, along with the impressive

proposal and presentation that was received from the casino and Bid Regina,

convinced us Regina has what it takes to host an event of this magnitude."

City officials were also on hand today to officially announce a partnership

agreement has been signed to connect the casino's new show lounge with the

Delta Hotel, Trade and Convention Centre and the Cornwall Centre.

"The City of Regina is pleased to provide support for the pedestrian link

project between Casino Regina, Cornwall Centre, Delta Hotel, Trade and

Convention Centre and the 1700 block of Hamilton Street," Mayor Pat Fiacco

said. "This infrastructure project supports the downtown plan approved by

Regina's Market Square and the city.

"The climate-controlled pedestrian linkages will make downtown more

accessible, help the entertainment industry, attract more visitors, lead to

activity beyond the 9-to-5 business day and increase the sense of safety

and security for visitors," Fiacco added.

The City of Regina, the Delta Regina Hotel, Trade and Convention Centre,

Regina's Market Square, Cadillac Fairview and Casino Regina have

established a partnership to cover the cost to construct the pedway

system. Total cost of the pedway project is $2 million.
