RESTORING SASKATCHEWAN'S OLDEST BUILDING

Centenary Funding will help restore Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Stanley

Mission.



"This church was constructed between 1854 and 1860 and is the oldest building

left standing in Saskatchewan," Environment and Resource Management Minister

Buckley Belanger said. "We are pleased that through this restoration, we can

ensure this historic legacy will be around for all of us to enjoy for many

years."



Restoration work will include installing two new aluminum crosses, repairing

and painting the exterior woodwork, applying preservative to wood shingles,

repairing or replacing stairs from dock to church entrance and repairing door

latches.



Holy Trinity Anglican Church currently provides religious services to the

Anglican congregation at Stanley Mission. It has also been designated a

Provincial Heritage Property and a National Historic Site.



The money for these projects comes from the province's four-year, $120 million

Centenary Fund. Total cost of this project, which is expected to be completed

by the spring of 2001, is $80,000.



This funding supplements current provincial parks infrastructure spending of

$2.5 million per year. The Centenary Fund was developed so important capital

projects can be completed as Saskatchewan approaches its centennial in 2005.
