An inquest into the death of Grant Robert Carriere will take place Monday,
September 18, at 9:30 am at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert.
The 44 year old Carriere died February 2, 2000, at the Victoria Union Hospital
in Prince Albert. He was an inmate at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary at the time
of his death.
Section 20 of The Coroners Act, 1999, requires an inquest be held when an
inmate dies in a jail, penitentiary, lock-up or correctional facility.
In addition to establishing when and where the death occurred and the medical
cause of death, the Coroner's jury may make recommendations to prevent similar
deaths in the future. Inquests are open to the public.
The presiding coroner will be Mr. Bruce Goertzen.
