RENOVATION COMPLETE FOR INDEPENDENT-LIVING UNITS

Released on September 8, 2000

River Heights Cottages have a new look inside and out. Nearly one million

dollars in renovations have been completed so North Battleford and area

seniors may continue to live in these independent living facilities.

Exterior improvements include new pitched roofs and chimneys, new living room

windows and replacement of some doors. Interior improvements included new

kitchen countertops, floor coverings, bathroom enhancements and replacement of

some furnaces.

In 1999 the Battleford Health District transferred ownership of the cottages to

the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation.

"Residents of the River Heights Lodge approached me to ask for my assistance in

getting renovations to their units, and with the co-operation of the

Battleford's Health District, the City of North Battleford and later the North

Battleford Housing Authority we were able to see this project through to

fruition," Hillson said. "Adequate and affordable housing is very important to

this government and as the Minister responsible for Municipal Affairs, Culture

and Housing, it is pleasing to see the province and the communities working

together to develop projects of this nature."

The North Battleford Housing Authority manages nearly 500 housing units in the

area, including the 30 River Heights Cottage units.
