CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES AGENCY REOPENS

A ceremony on the Onion Lake First Nation marked the reopening of the of the

Onion Lake Child and Family Services Agency today.



Among the many guests in attendance was Social Services Minister Harry Van

Mulligen.



"I congratulate the Onion Lake First Nation and the Onion Lake Child and Family

Services Agency on this occasion," Van Mulligen said. "Agencies such as this

play a crucial role in the social development of Saskatchewan's First Nations

communities."



First Nations Child and Family Services Agencies provide all the services

outlined in The Child and Family Services Act to reserve communities. These

services include family support services, planning and placement services for

children in care, as well as child protection services.



"Our agency provides family-centered, holistic and culturally appropriate

programs to ensure our children can grow up in a family environment," Agency

Director Connie Matchatis said.



There are currently 17 First Nations Child and Family Service Agenices across

the province serving 66 of Saskatchewan's 71 Indian bands.
